Welcome to the Tenkile Conservation Alliance (TCA)

TCA’s Vision is:

The people of PNG and their places are respected, valued, protected and enhanced in the context of their overall well being; including their natural resources, habitats, ecosystems, communities, cultures and local economies.
…..

TCA’s Mission is:

To save lives in PNG – the lives of people, animals and their places.

Our strategy started with …

Tree Kangaroos as flagship species to achieving broader conservation outcomes and now we are protecting the entire Torricelli Mountain Range which includes all biodiversity. The Torricelli Mountain Range is home to 50% of PNG’s Bird species, 65% of PNG’s frog and reptile species and 40% of PNG’s mammal species.

Of these 4 mammals are critically endangered and 3 bird species are endangered. It is worth saving.

This would not be possible without the engagement of 13,000 local people from 50 villages who own the Torricelli Mountain Range. They have development and livelihood needs that we try to meet in order to keep those communities engaged and supportive of the conservation efforts. This strategy also aims to prevent communities from choosing large scale exploitative activities such as logging and mining.
