Will James Cameron Save BP From Further Embarrassment?

It has now been 45 days since the oil rig explosion in the Gulf began unloading oil and polluting our oceans and there’s only one man that can fix this problem – Mr. James Cameron. After countless problem solvers have come forward to help with the oil spill, what better solution than to have a hot-shot movie director save the day?

According to Reuters, Cameron contacted BP about a month ago and offered to help but was turned down.  He was told that the situation was under control, but after witnessing the ongoing coverage he felt it was truly time to step in and take action.

"Over the last few weeks I've watched, as we all have, with growing horror and heartache, watching what's happening in the Gulf and thinking those morons don't know what they're doing," Cameron said at the All Things Digital technology conference.

On Tuesday, Cameron attended a brainstorming session that brought together the Environmental Protection Agency, various professors, engineers and even Cameron’s brother — an engineer who worked closely with him to create special vessels during the making of The Titanic.  The meeting put forth several useful ideas on the table, all of which apparently will be shared with BP.

Cameron who has been known as an innovator in the film industry is no stranger to working below the depths.  If we time travel back to 1989 then you just may remember a sci-fi movie called The Abyss, which was actually shot in an unfinished nuclear power plant. For this film, Cameron actually built a whole set underwater, which was the largest of its kind.  He’s also been involved in several documentaries involving sea exploration.  Reportedly the next Avatar movie will also take place underwater.

Cameron may not be the one to save us from this catastrophe, but his involvement will definitely make one heck of a story idea for his next blockbuster movie.
