Earth Day Canada recently launched the scholarship for students who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and academic excellence.
From starting school recycling programs to engaging in groundbreaking scientific research, high school students are demonstrating their leadership across Canada by responding to environmental issues at local, national and global levels.
Through the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program, Toyota Canada Foundation and Earth Day Canada are acknowledging the work of these students in an attempt to reward their efforts. The scholarship offers 20 regional scholarships of $5 000 each to high school students entering their first year of college or university in any program of study. One exceptional student, chosen from the regional winners, will also be presented with the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship National Award and a Panasonic notebook computer at a National Award Ceremony.
To date, 140 students across Canada have been awarded with scholarships since the program's inception in 2003, totalling an investment of $700,000 in the development of tomorrow's environmental leaders.
