In the April/May 2008 issue of National Wildlife magazine senior editor Roger Di Silvestro tells us how, because an antiquated 1872 law, hard rock mining companies are able to obtain leases on public lands at ridiculously low cost and extract minerals from those lands at huge profits, and leave behind ruined natural habitat and toxic waste for cleanup at taxpayer expense.
I believe this is just one more example of corporate welfare that not only costs us money, but threatens the future of the planet.
The National Wildlife Federation in partnership with other organizations has formed Sportsmen United for Sensible Mining. I would like to encourage everyone associated with Earth Protect to support the efforts of Sportsmen United for Sensible Mining by visiting their website at: http://www.sensiblemining.org/index.html and join their campaign.
You can also encourage them to join this community and help spread the word of what they are doing and why. We can all accomplish more by working together.
